Yeah, Hannibal is not for the faint of heart. I love the show though, even though at times it had too much of a 'killer of the week' vibe. Hannibal is best when it focuses on Hannibal himself, Mads Mikkelsen is superb.

At first, I thought it'd take me forever to catch up, too. But if you do what I do and watch 1 disc per day, you can watch the whole series in a couple months. I never did see the live action film. I looked at pictures online and cringed. Pretty much noone looked remotely close to their anime counterparts.

It felt like a drag I remember as a kid I hated it because Goku hadn't come back yet lol (it was a filler saga, as I recall)

I never saw it, and when it first came on, I thought I missed something. Luckily, it's only 10 around 10 episodes, tops. I'd probably enjoy it more if I saw the movie. I was really missing Goku too! I actually just picked up Season 6 on Sunday. I'm ready to start the Cell Games!

Yeah, Hannibal is not for the faint of heart. I love the show though, even though at times it had too much of a 'killer of the week' vibe. Hannibal is best when it focuses on Hannibal himself, Mads Mikkelsen is superb. I wrote this on IMDB's Hannibal message board after finishing the entire show (quotes are another user's questions): The novel's ( Hannibal) Margot Verger is lesbian; she has a relationship with a character named Judy. In the TV show, Alana Bloom fills that role (I suppose the writers weren't inclined to introduce a new character that would only feature briefly); my best guess is she's bisexual. Either way, I didn't enjoy season 3 as much as the first two, but the characters/ actors were strong all across the board, and I liked how Margot Verger finally found love and happiness. It's very different in tone and pacing. That's a little off-putting. I found myself rather bored with season 3, while the first two seasons got under my skin and I couldn't stop thinking about what happened. (The season 2 finale was extraordinary, I rarely get emotional from watching films or television shows, but I felt a deep sadness when Hannibal left his protege, friends and former lover to die). It is of importance you watch all episodes, though - there are some revelations and developments you wouldn't want to miss. All in all, I think the film Hannibal did a much better job of showing the titular character enjoying and lavishing himself in Florence, whereas the show drags on in these bits. It might be because Bedelia is with him. It could have been fascinating to have both characters in the same room for long periods of time, but the scenes in which Hannibal and Bedelia discuss Will Graham while back in her practice/ home in Baltimore are far more engaging than the cat and mouse game played in the opulent rooms of the apartment they live in. As for the Red Dragon adaptation - I didn't feel it was too engaging either. That might be due to te story having been committed to the screen two times before ( Manhunter and its remake titled Red Dragon) - the Dragon's storyline leaves very little surprises, as you know exactly what will happen. Though they oddly never explain why Dolarhyde feels insecure about his appearance (a brief shot of him as a young boy eating at the table with the residents of the retirement home and his grandmother aside), and for some odd reason the moment Graham realizes how the Dragon chose his victims has been excised completely. Instead the Dragon waits for Graham in his motel room, demanding a meeting with Lecter, then Graham, who has seen Dolarhyde twice now, does exactly as told - with devastating results. In short, watch all episodes to miss nothing - but you're not alone in feeling this third season is rather disappointing. (It's still exceptional television - it often feels more like a mix between a small arthouse film and a well-funded blockbuster. A rare combination.) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As for new purchases: - Non-Stop (2014) - Disney's Beauty and the Beast- Game Change (2012) Now, that last one comes in an HBO three-DVD box. I had wanted to see the film for a long time, but it's almost 18,- euros for the loose DVD. I'd purchased the other two films but needed one more purchase for free shipping; low and behold, I found the three-DVD box for under 10,- euros! It includes the films Muhamed Ali's Greatest Fight and Hemingway & Gellhorn. I might watch the other two at a later time. Game Change was refreshing. It doesn't paint Sarah Palin in too unfavorable a light - she is first and foremost presented as a dedicated mother, wife and community champion. It's only after she's asked to join McCain's campaign she fails and then takes matters in her own hands and becomes a bit of a diva. Julianne Moore's performance is outrageously good. The film had me glued to my screen, which is quite a feat knowing the outcome of the 2008 election.
