Anyone seen Kong Skull Island yet? If so, what did you think? Notice any JP references?

Saw it last Sunday with a friend. A notable JP reference would be Samuel L. Jackson's line "Hold on to your butts". It's a fun movie, not much of a story as it mostly serves to set up the Monsterverse with Godzilla but I'd still say that it's the best iteration of the lore so far. Fans of the Showa Kongs and the 1976 remake will definitely love it though I have to warn you, don't expect any living dinosaurs, just some really imaginative monsters aside Kong. Case of point, the Skull Crawlers. These things would give a T.rex a run for it's money.

I really enjoyed it, a lot more than I thought I would, even. I liked the pacing, and the action. It was just the perfect length, accomplished to set out what it was supposed to do, and didn't overstay its welcome. Also, it was apparently 'bring your retired dad to the movies' day or something. There was three other father/offspring couples in the auditorium. My Dad and I always enjoyed a good creature feature, and this is one hell of a monster mash.

I noticed Jackson's "Hold onto your butts" line. I felt the movie had a very JP feel to it with going to an island, seeing beasts etc.

I really enjoyed it. I found that the boat scene really reminded me of the boat scene in jp3

I thought the boneyard scene with the camera flash was really inventive.

By any chance does anyone have a pic of what the Kong figure looks like?

I thought the boneyard scene with the camera flash was really inventive. Reminded me of JP3 actually, when the Spinosaurus swallowed the mobile phone but far better executed.
