Every forum I'm on has a thread dedicated to rating the last movie(s) you have watched. Figured the Lounge could use something new so we'll see how this goes. We'll have a simple rating system based on the smileys below. Feel free to post your thoughts if you so choose. - LOVED IT - Liked it - Neither like or dislike - Disliked it - HATED IT Inglorious bas**rds- I enjoyed it for the most part. Not sure how I feel about Hitler being killed at the end as it's a complete work of fiction, and I don't like when history is blatantly disregarded for entertainment purposes. I would have rather that scene not happened. That aside I enjoyed it. 1922- It was alright I guess. I did find it a tad crude for my tastes, like the scene where they slit her throat after multiple botched attempts or when the cow is bawling at the bottom of the well. Something I did like about this movie was how you felt the main characters mental state rotting as time went on. A Quiet Place- Really good. Surprisingly entertaining. It is a short movie, but even still time fly by faster than expected. Loved the tension throughout. I like that it is genuinely creepy and doesn't simply rely on BOO moments to scare you.

Tombstone (rewatch) - Loved it. Minor quibbles on historical accuracy at a couple details, but still inspirational--noted firearms instructor and police trainer Massad Ayoob has written up a combo film critique/Lessons Learned from the movie and the historical lives of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday that I believe should be included with every copy sold. (Ayoob basically makes an argument that Earp was the first "modern law-enforcement officer" with tactics, training and a primitive form of body armor with his silk vests, one that I feel would be a good foundation for a Western History or LE History thesis.) Jurassic Park was on USA last night too; you shoulda seen my mother haranguing poor little Junior about not getting ideas from Rexy. (Dunno why, her only confirmed kill was the lawyer and it's not like they count as human anyway and she was instrumental in saving the day at the end!)

The Lost World: Jurassic Park- I know I'm in the minority, but I really like this movie! Always have. This movie feels like an adventure on a mysterious island. So when I hear people say the first part of Fallen Kingdom may feel like TLW, I like the sounds of that.

To be honest, I think a lot of the beef with TLW (definitely my own disappointment) was it had the potential to be so much more. By any other director it would have been a great movie, but against the benchmark of other Spielberg works, you can tell he was phoning it in and didn't really want to be there. Not to diss the cast's contribution, but I think Winston and Williams largely carry TLW on their backs.
Speaking for myself, I would have preferred the JP franchise not be done as a series of direct linear sequels, but more a series of unrelated stories whose connection is sharing the same universe and a few characters here and there--if you remember Kevin J. Anderson's old Star Wars: Tales of _____ anthologies before Kathleen Kennedy nuked all of Lucas's intricate worldbuilding, more like those. Other than the passings of the actors, I would have liked to see standalones exploring the backstories of Hammond, Muldoon and Tembo, just for a few examples, or maybe something showing the background between Gennaro and Rexy explaining why she singled him out for The Chomp but let the others get away when she easily had them dead to rights.

Shrek- I remember this being one of the first, if not the first, Pixar movie I saw in theaters. Before that it was always VHS. Independence Day- Haven't watched this one in a coon's age but it was on TV this evening and I had nothing better to do. I had completely forgotten about the part towards the end when they're flying out of the Mother Ship and Jeff Goldblum's character says "Must go faster"

Everest- I've been watching a lot of stuff about Everest lately, so watching the movie based on the 1996 disaster seemed appropriate. Solo: A Star Wars Story- A fun adventure with some great Easter Eggs.

The Sixth Sense- Believe it not I hadn't seen this movie before. I couldn't sleep on Friday night and noticed it was just starting, so I flipped to the channel and figured I would drift off. But I enjoyed it so much I stayed up to watch it. Really creepy, and tells a nice story. Top notch!

Every forum I'm on has a thread dedicated to rating the last movie(s) you have watched. Figured the Lounge could use something new so we'll see how this goes. We'll have a simple rating system based on the smileys below. Feel free to post your thoughts if you so choose. - LOVED IT - Liked it - Neither like or dislike - Disliked it - HATED IT I like this. Okay well from the movies you listed, here is what I thought: Inglorious bas**rds There is nothing I enjoy more than a war film. That being said even alternate history films, if done right can be amazing. I did love the acting and the use of native languages in the film. An aesthetically pretty movie. The idea of the story was interesting. But the movie seemed to too short and the story moved too quickly for my taste. The soundtrack had very odd choices, some of the humour didn't work for me, and the excessive gore really turned me off. Maybe a made for TV version of this film would be more enjoyable for me to watch. The Sixth Sense An overhyped film that didn't blow me away like it did everyone else back in the day. I only watched it for the first time within the last three years. It was decently enjoyable with good acting and an interesting story. I'm not much of a creepy movie fan but it worked. Solo: A Star Wars Story At times watching this movie I felt bored. A lot of this movie felt unStar Wars to me. Almost everything Disney's Star Wars does these days falls so far short of good for me... and apparently a lot of other people too. The most disappointing part to me was the soundtrack. Shrek Not really my type of humour but I love Eddie Murphy's voice acting. Fun and silly and makes me laugh. A Quiet Place - I have not seen it yet. Everest - I have not seen. Independence Day I've always enjoyed this film even the cheesy parts. The scene with his gf as a stripper is unnecessary in the film but... yeah, good movie. The Lost World: Jurassic Park This isn't nostalgia talking here. I honestly think this film was hurt by the bandwagon. The negative bandwagon. Someone in 97' who reviews films had a hate on for someone or something to do with this film. Like most things, everyone else jumped on board and these days it seems it is "cool" or "everyone just agrees" to dislike this film. The Lost World was Jurassitically different from the first film in tone and setting. The visuals are amazing both the cinematography and effects. The score is outstanding and doesn't rely on the previous film themes too much. The cast is outstanding and the film pacing is just right, not too quick and not too long. Goldblum's character has changed since the first film and provides some comic relief. There are cameos but they aren't forced into the film awkwardly. The twist at the end with the Rex in the city is a neat change of scenery. The lore is added to in a positive way and follows true with the previous film world. The cringe moments are when they downplay the gore of the screenwriter being eaten in the city and a bit when Kelly takes out the raptor... even though both scenes fit into the film and make sense. They did talk about Kelly being in gymnastics earlier in the film and I could see the reason why she would want to help her Dad due to the situation and their relationship. Besides a few shots of the rexes trying to get at Eddie which should have been reshot or edited differently to hide mistakes of the animatronics. There is very little or actually nothing really I dislike about this film. In fact I might even like The Lost World more than Jurassic Park as a film, as I find myself rewatching The Lost World more often than JP. 1922 I really wanted to love this film but in a couple of ways it wasn't all it could have been. I love how small the film is. I love the score. I love the acting, especially from the Thomas Jane... if the award shows didn't have their heads up their own butts all the time in another reality, his acting should be award winning... and if he in fact did win awards they are well earned. I enjoy the pacing of the film and I enjoy the setting. I didn't enjoy the supernatural part of the film, I would have enjoyed it if they would have left more to the imagination or Wilfred's imagination. The film left me feeling a little depressed which works for the type of film. I just felt the movie was really good but could have been better.
